Course Descriptions & Programs
These courses aim to assist Trainees prepare to sit the Primary Examination.
PRIMARY (Part I) COURSES
Orientation to Anaesthesia
The aim of the orientation workshop is to provide support for Registrars joining the College training program. Topics covered in this include some introductory background to the function of the College, professionalism, how to get help if required, as well as educational aspects relating to study skills and approach to exams.
An afternoon workshop held at the beginning of each year. Only open to Victorian Trainees.
Venue: ANZCA House.
Primary Fulltime Course
The Primary Fulltime Course is a comprehensive and detailed course covering physiology and pharmacology. It is conducted in a variety of formats, including lecture format and more interactive styles.
Held twice each year. Only open to Registrars sitting the next Primary Examination.
Two weeks, 9.00am-5.30pm Monday to Friday. Usually comprises 4 lectures each day.
Venue: ANZCA House.
Primary Trial Orals
A series of Trial Orals held for Registrars sitting the next Primary Examination.
Held twice each year.
Four evenings commencing at 6.30pm
Venue: Rotated through Melbourne metropolitan teaching hospitals.
FINAL (Part II) COURSES
These courses aim to assist Trainees prepare to sit the Final Examination.
Final Fulltime Course
A comprehensive and detailed course conducted in an educational lecture format. Includes “Advice from the Final Examination Panel”.
Held twice each year. Only open to Registrars sitting the next Final Examination.
One week, 8.00am-5.30pm Monday to Friday. Usually comprises 4 or 5 lectures each day.
Venue: ANZCA House.
Final Medical Refresher
This course is to refresh candidates’ examination skills and clinical knowledge. Tutorial groups of 5 or 6 are assigned a medical registrar who will lead them through several short cases.
Held twice each year.
Four consecutive Saturday mornings commencing at 9.30am.
Venue: Monash Medical Centre.
Final Anatomy Course
This is a course in anatomy applied to anaesthesia. Topics covered generally include: upper and lower limb; anatomy of the spine and its attachment; head and neck; anatomy of the heart and lungs, including bronchoscopic and laryngoscopic anatomy. Candidates are expected to have completed the relevant section before the tutorial since it will run as a question and answer session, rather than a lecture format.
Held twice each year.
Four consecutive Thursday evenings commencing at 6.30pm.
Venue: ANZCA House.
Final Trial Orals
A series of Trial Orals held for Registrars sitting the next Final Examination.
Held twice each year.
Four evenings commencing at 6.30pm
Venue: Rotated through Melbourne metropolitan teaching hospitals.
