Rotational Training Schemes in Victoria

Rotational Training Schemes  are systems in which Trainees rotate through a group of accredited hospitals to gain the breadth of experience needed to fulfil module requirements.

Those wishing to apply for a training position within a Rotational Training Scheme in Victoria should apply directly to the Health Services (Main Hospital).

These are currently:

  • Bayside Health (The Alfred Hospital),
  • Austin Health (The Austin Hospital),
  • Barwon Health (Geelong Hospital),
  • Southern Health (Monash Medical Centre),
  • Melbourne Health (The Royal Melbourne Hospital),
  • St Vincent’s Health (St Vincent’s Hospital) and
  • Western Health (Western Hospital).

Victoria also has an Obstetric and Paediatric Training Scheme (OPATS). This is a 1-year scheme to gain the breadth of experience needed to fulfil the module requirements for Obstetric and Paediatric Anaesthesia. This is usually done in the first year of advanced training.

A list of Rotational Schemes, the Rotational Supervisors and the associated Hospitals can be found at http://www.anzca.edu.au/trainees/supervisory-roles/vic .

Each Scheme organises it’s own selection process. The Health Services usually advertise the Scheme positions within these Schemes in May in The Age Newspaper and interviews are carried out from July to September.
